What are these mysterious black rings being spotted in the sky all over the world?

A bizarre giant black ring, dubbed as “smoke vortex,” has been recently spotted floating through the sky near the village of Birkenshaw in West Yorkshire, England. The phenomenon was observed and photographed by Kimberley Robinson, 22, who was travelling down the M62 at the time with her boyfriend Danny Cooper, 26. According to Robinson, the black ring appeared to be a bit smokey, but the shape was solid and round.

According to reports, the floating black circle resembled a giant smoke ring. However, the West Yorkshire Fire Service said there had been no cases of fire at the time of the sighting. Likewise, the Met Office said the smoke ring did not appear to be related to weather. “We have had a look at it and cannot think of anything metrological that would have caused such a phenomenon. It looks reasonably clear, with fair-weather cloud that looks like it has bubbled up. There is a little bit of rising air in the atmosphere. It does not appear to be anything at ground level that is causing the smoke to rise. It looks as if it’s a small feature rather than something several miles across,” a Met Office spokesperson said.

However, an outside expert weighed in on the recent sighting, citing possible explanations to the “smoke vortex” phenomenon. “Despite exotic theories about UFOs, aliens, or portals to other dimensions, I believe there’s a decidedly down-to-earth explanation here. A so-called smoke vortex can arise when you have a blast through a circular structure like a smokestack. So these weird effects can be caused by accident – or indeed by design. I realise that by debunking this I’ll probably be accused of working for the Illuminati or something, but I genuinely think we can close the case file on this one,” explained Nick Pope, former UFO investigator for the Ministry of Defence.

True enough, an earthly explanation surfaced. According to Nigel Watson, author of UFOs of the first World War, the purported smoke vortex was caused by a wartime reenactment during the Yorkshire Wartime Event. According to Watson, canon fire produces sudden disturbances in the surrounding air, hence the formation of smoke rings.

Mysterious black rings also spotted around the world over the years

The recent sighting was only the most recent of the many documented cases of mysterious black rings floating in the air. Just last year, another alleged smoke vortex was observed hovering above the Magic Castle in Disneyland California. A video clip of the phenomenon surfaced, with baffled visitors audibly asking what the black ring was. Video uploader Kyle Hawkins said nobody had an idea what the phenomenon was, and stressed that the people watched the strange black ring with a twinge of fear and confusion. In 2015, another footage of a mysterious black ring surfaced. According to reports, the smoky ring was spotted floating 40 miles north of Astana in Kazakhstan. The black ring, which measured 100 meter-wide, was observed for 15 minutes before suddenly disappearing. In 2014, another black ring was seen above Warwick, which stayed afloat for three minutes.
